Nanny and Case kissing

In the course of a little over 30 hours, this is the only time Melanie kissed Case.
Okay, maybe there was more than one kiss.

Melanie and I in Glenn Rose

Joey and Allison took several pictures of Melanie and I at Glenn Rose on Saturday and I liked this one best. Actually, the one I like best was ruined by a mosquito on my head and I don't have enough Photoshop skills to get rid of the pest.

Weekend Trip to Cleburne & Glenn Rose

Melanie, Joey, Allison, Case, and I went over to Glenn Rose on Saturday for their Fall Festival on the courthouse square. Case was a Silly Bug for his first Halloween. We had a great visit with the kids and grandson and it was hard to go home Sunday. We had a picnic in their back yard in Cleburne on Sunday so the mobile fish cooker was in action again.

New SRA Tawakoni Lake Levels

Elevation as of 10-27 was 426.06, lake is 11.44 feet below conservation pool. Lake is at 58.6 percent of capacity and the official watch is a moderate drougth stage. The lake has to fall below 50% to reach severe stage. SRA puts out official lake level information each Friday

Crazy Week- Beautiful Thursday Evening

I have been pretty much preparing reports and contracts this week for the HOME Program (where we will construct five homes for the low income residents under a federal grant) and working on an emergecy response plan for the new water plant. I feel like it is the middle of May and we are preparing budgets. So, after work yesterday, Melanie and I were sitting in the back porch and decided a boat ride was in order. No wind, lots of clouds, lighting in the distance and a sunset. It was very nice.

It's raining today!

Had a little rain last night but we are getting a good rain right now at City Hall. Of course, we need a lot. It is supposed to be a beautiful weekend but pretty windy between now and Friday evening. I guess this rain means we will all have to mow at least one more time before winter.

City Moving Raw Water Intake Again!

For the fourth time in a little over a year, the City of West Tawakoni is making plans to move the location of where we take raw water. City crews, over the next two weeks, will be extending 300 feet of line out further into the lake. With the 300 feet of additional pipe, the city will only get to a lake depth of 5 feet, 2 inches.

Indian Summer?

While driving down Rabbit Cove Road earlier today, I noticed some Indian paintbrushes blooming. I know the weather has been a little crazly lately but to fool wildflowers is something else.

Early Voting Starts for November 7 General Election

Early voting started today and runs through November 3rd for the General Elections. Election Day is November 7 and local voters will vote here at City Hall from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m on election day.
Since the county went to voting machines, you can no longer vote early at City Hall. The mobile voting unit will be in Quinlan at the Brookshire Parking Lot on Saturday, October 28 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
You can vote in person at the Hunt County voter office located at 2217A Washington in Greenville. Call 903.454.5467 for more information

Great Weekend at the Lake

The Lake Fest came off well Saturday. The petting zoo sponsored by the Quinlan FFA was a hit. The Chamber of Commerce pulled off a good event and a lof of folks had nothing but good things to say about the improvements in the park, especially the new bathrooms. Parks & Wildlife is working on the boat launch on our side of the two mile bridge, taking advantage of the low water to make improvements.
Melanie and I fished Friday after work and caught 31 keepers and then Saturday after lake fest we kept 20 more. We were catching white bass and hybrids trolling the hellbender/pet spoon combination fishing near the Terrell Pump Station. We got a lot of house work done on Sunday and even cleaned up the boat and ended the weekend with our Sunday evening fish fry.

Hunt County lifted the burn ban yesterday and some folks were already taking advantage of it today. Nice fall cold snap last night, the temp fell to 45 degrees.

Kody the Monopoly Champ

This is Kody, the nine year old grandson and he lives in Amarillo. He's already a frequent flyer to Love Field for weekends at the lake. This is him showing the spoils of victory at our house on a recent visit.

Grandson Josh

This is me and Grandson Josh. He's three and lives in Amarillo (where this photo was taken). He loves to come to the lake and really likes the boat. His parents are daughter Kim and son in law Ryan Hodge. He has an older brother Kody.

Melanie The Fishing Fanatic

This is my wife Melanie with a nice white bass caught near the dam this past spring on a Hum Dinger lure. She is a fantastic partner and just loves being on the lake.

What's Happening

The Big Lake Fest is this weekend. The Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the event and there will be a beauty pageant for kids, horseshoe-volleyball-kid's casting and basketball competitions, food booths, music and vendors. Looks like we will have nice weather for the events. The Festival is Saturday and activities start at 10 a.m.
The City Council will not meet on the 24th. We only had one item on the agenda and the Mayor said we can take care of it at the next meeting. Police Chief Jack Schultz had a very nice letter to the editor in this edition of the local newspaper.
The City Council will be holding a planning meeting, hopefully pretty soon in November. It is a chance for council members to set goals and priorities. That meeting, as well as all, will be open to the public.

Favorite Picture of New Grandson Case

This is new grandson Case, born April 11 and our son Joey, photo shot by daughter in law Allison. It is my screensaver. They live in Cleburne and we hope to see them this weekend or next.

A photo shot by our son is our favorite general Lake Tawakoni picture so far. This was taken just around the corner from our home

Largest Blue Cat So Far

This is the largest catfish our family has caught (so far) at the lake. Our son Joey actually was in the boat by himself when he checked the jug lines we had set out. We estimated the weight at 22 pounds. He's on our boat dock back when the cove actually had water

This is me with the largest fish we have caught on a rod and reel so far at the lake. No weight but it was 33 inches long and caught on a hellbender-pet spoon combination on May 12th near the dam.

Starting This Blog

As some of you know, I am the City Administrator for the City of West Tawakoni. I wanted a blog to have a way to communicate what is happening in our city and around the lake. This is an exciting time as the area is starting to be "discovered" by homeowners and investors alike. The City has several projects upcoming in the next couple of years and almost weekly someone walks in to City Hall with an idea. We will be constructing a new water plant, have two projects at the city park, will be building five homes for low income residents, as well as a project to rehabilitate lift stations. Since coming here in May of 2005, my wife and I have fallen in love with the lake and fish it often and tall fishing tales will also become a part of this blog. Many of our family members have visited and have also become hooked on fishing.
